10 Books to Read Launch Party | Reading
News10, The Sacramento Public Library, and ScholarShare have joined forces to bring you "10 Books to Read," a new local program encouraging parents, grandparents and caregivers to read with their children.
Every month, Sacramento Public Library librarians will select books based on their accessibility, appeal, and readability. These selections will be listed on the "10 Books to Read" page at saclibrary.org, making it easy to find new books that spark the imagination and generate a love of reading. From classic family favorites to award winning titles, the lists have something to captivate any child's imagination.
"Raising a reader is as easy as talking, singing, writing and playing with your child, and of course, reading too. We want to everyone to take 10 minutes a day to read one of these delightful books with their children, instilling a reading habit that will benefit them for a lifetime," said Rivkah K. Sass, Sacramento Public Library director. Brain development research shows that reading aloud to a child every day increases brain capacity for language and literacy skills, critical elements in developing reading abilities.
Join News10's Dale Schornack and Cristina Mendonsa for the official launch of "10 Books to Read!" Tuesday July 17th, Dale and Cristina will be reading from the selection of 10 books for the month of July to a crowd of eager children! Enjoy children's classics at the Belle Cooledge Library (5600 South Land Park Drive, Sacramento 95822) at 2:00 pm!
