Prosthetic limb stolen from admitted gang member | News
STOCKTON, CA - A 50-year-old Stockton man who said an artificial limb was ripped from his body by thieves earlier this week, said the likely motive was his gang involvement.
"They come out of the bushes. One grabbed me from behind and they popped my leg," said Jacky Copeland. "If they take my leg, they harm me, and stop me, but it'll never happen."
Copeland has an artificial left leg because of a gang shooting nearly five years ago. He said he served a prison sentence of more than 30 years for murder. On one hand, he says the right thing.
"Trying to better my life. I got a granddaughter and gotta take care of her. Got to go to church and get right," said Copeland.
But he also said this more than once: "I'll probably be a Northerner [gang member] until the day I die,"
His leg, wallet and cellphone were taken near the intersections of Madison and Park Streets, not far from the Stockton Arena.
