SACRAMENTO - Slugger Manny Ramirez who was playing for the Sacramento River Cats requested his outright release and this afternoon the Oakland Athletics let him go.
The A's granted his request after Ramirez continued to struggle and failed to show any power with the Sacramento River Cats,batting just over .300 (19-63) with three doubles, zero home runs and 17 strikeouts in 17 games.
After Ramirez signed a minor league deal with Oakland, he was required to serve a 50-game drug suspension. Ramirez was eligible to join the Athletics on May 30th, but the team decided to keep him with the River Cats.
