Child Support Workshops in August Part of Child Support Awareness Month

Child Support Workshops in August Part of Child Support Awareness Month

“Children are the best part of ourselves – the sum of our past and the promise of our future, the guarantee that our lives and values and dreams will flourish long after we are gone.”  With that statement, then President Bill Clinton made an official proclamation in 1995 that recognized the month of August as Child Support Awareness Month.

Child Support Awareness Month is a time to salute parents who work hard to ensure their children grow up in stable homes and look forward to a bright future.  It is also a time to help remind parents who are not always present that they are an important part of their children’s lives.

2014 Weekly Challenge #28: Random Acts of Kindness

2014 Weekly Challenge #28: Random Acts of Kindness

Being kind is probably a part of your every day life. After all, you have to be nice, in general, to get what you want and to keep the people you love happy.

But what about being kind simply for the sake of being kind? What about doing something kind for someone you don't need anything from, or even someone you don't know?

Practicing kindness, and passing it on to others encourages other to do the same thing. If we're all being kind, and doing kind things for each other, the world is bound to be a better place. And doing something nice for someone "just because" creates a feel good moment for the giver and recipient!... Read More

Play & Learn Workshops at the Winters Community Library in March

The Winters Community Library, a branch of the Yolo County Library system, located at 708 Railroad Avenue in Winters, will host a four-part parenting workshop for the parents and caregivers of children ages 1 to 4 in March. The series will be held 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. every Thursday in March (March 6, 13, 20 and 27).

During the series, toddlers, preschoolers and their caregivers will have the opportunity to play together with developmentally appropriate toys, learn together with an early childhood specialist, and get to know other parents in the community with like-aged children.  Dramatic play, music and art, gross and fine motor skills, as well as books and puppet play will be incorporated into the series.  Presenters will include a pediatrician, an occupational therapist, a child psychologist and a nutritionist.

Smoothies

Smoothies

If you were lucky enough to get a Vitamix or Ninja as a gift recently then you are probably looking for all kinds if smoothie recipes.
Here is a great little smoothie chart to give you inspiration for your own fruit and veggie combinations.

This smoothie is a little different and if you are someone who doesn't like a thick texture, you may not like this, but any good blender will make it very smooth:  Banana Oatmeal Smoothie
It's delicious and very filling.  I highly recommend that all the ingredients be cold and/or frozen.  It's a great use for leftover oatmeal or make some oatmeal before bed, stick it in the fridge and then use it with frozen bananas.  It's perfect for after a Bootcamp session!

2013 Weekly Challenge #39: Go Sugar FREE

I can hardly beleive it is already almost October. Its time for crisp fall apples, winter squash, veggie soup and...Halloween Candy. Ugg.

Even the healthiest eaters sometimes struggle at this time of year. Everywhere you turn, there's another bowl of candy, a baked treat, and a "reason to celebrate." But we all know that stuff just isn't good for you. And once you start eating it, it can be pretty hard to stop.

This week, give yourself a jumpstart on the holidays by eliminating the refined sugar from your diet. No soda, no cookies, no ice cream and don't even think about that candy corn. But you weren't eating that stuff anyway, right?)

Natural sugars, of course, are an important part of a healthy diet, so keep eating your fruits and veggies as usual.

One week, no refined sugar. You CAN do it, and your body will love you for it!... Read More
