When draining your pool…

Do not drain your pool to the ground or storm drain. Pump or siphon the water from your pool or spa into an interior laundry sink or other plumbing fixture, or to a sewer cleanout (typically located adjacent to your home in your front and/or backyard). Never open a manhole to discharge the water!

If you are unable to locate the sewer cleanout on your property, please call the City’s Environmental Services Division at (916) 617-4590 during normal office hours (8am to 5pm Monday through Friday). City staff will schedule a time to come to your home to provide assistance. If your property does not contain a sewer cleanout, City staff will assist in getting one installed or if all else fails will provide direction in preparing the pool water for approved discharge to the storm drain.
