Water Conservation Improving

The efforts of City staff and West Sacramento residents and businesses have resulted in a citywide water use reduction of 20.68 percent for the period of February 2014 through August 2014, as compared to the same period last year. (This also reflects an improvement over the 19.4 percent decrease for a period ending in July 2014.) City of West Sacramento departments, including Public Works, Parks and Recreation, and Fire, reduced water use by 25 percent between February and August this year. Celebrate the Turner Community Library on October 11

Celebrate the Turner Community Library on October 11

This fall, the Yolo County Library’s Arthur F. Turner Community Library in West Sacramento will be celebrating five years in its current location with an anniversary party on October 11 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.  The community is invited to attend and enjoy good food, good company and a great line up of events.

The celebration will begin at 1:00 p.m. with remarks scheduled for 2:00 p.m.  Later in the afternoon, there will be a special story time with Mike on the Mic and an appearance by Dinger from the Sacramento Rivercats.  The day’s activities will also include crafts and activities, free books for youth and bilingual Spanish/English and Russian/English story times. Clifford the Big Red Dog and his friend Emily Elizabeth will also be on hand to greet and mingle with guests and guided tours of the library will be offered throughout the afternoon.

Railroad Museum Calls Out for Volunteers With Special Drop-In Open House on 9/6!

Fascinated by railroading history? Interested in working on a train? Enjoy working with visitors, children and school groups? California State Parks, the California State Railroad Museum and Old Sacramento State Historic Park (SHP) are now recruiting adults (18 or older) who are interested in volunteering to help communicate the West’s fascinating heritage of railroading and the California Gold Rush.  For those interested but want to find out more information, a special, drop-in Volunteer Open House is scheduled for Saturday, September 6, 2014 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Stanford Gallery located at 111 I Street in Old Sacramento State Historic Park.  Volunteer applications are being accepted now through September 19, 2014.  After an evaluation and interview process, volunteer training will begin on September 27, 2014.
